Samsung SGH-i200 Smartphone with Windows Mobile 6.1 OS now in retail markets

Samsung Smart phone, model SGH-i200 with Windows Mobile 6.1 OS is now available in the retail markets in Europe and Asia.

The Standard Edition of Samsung i200 Smart phone with slim and stylish looks is available in two colors, black and blue.

The SGH- i200 comes with a tri-band connectivity (900/1800/1900 MHz) and with GPRS and EDGE. The 2100MHz HSDPA connectivity gives transfer speeds upto 3.6 Mbps.

The 2.3 inch TFT non-touchscreen display gives 240×320 pixels resolution and 262K colors. The 2M camera comes with face detection and video recording. The other features of SGH-i200 include Pocket Internet Explorer, Outlook, email etc .

A drawback may be the limited 25MB internal memory but it is easily overcome with the additional micro-SD card slot. So users can get several GBs of storage by putting that additional card.

The 1100 mAh battery of SGH-i200 can give upto 4hours in talk-time mode and upto 360 hours in Stand by mode.

This sleek phone measures only 116.7×50.8×11.8 millimeters and weighs 102 grams.

Apple’s iphone 3G : Vodafone ahead of O2 and AT&T

Apple’s latest iphone 3G will be released by Vodafone in New Zealand, come July 11th 00:01 hours. This will be almost 24 hours ahead of the iphone 3G’s release in the US markets by AT&T.

The wait for the much-sought after iphone 3G’s release is almost over now. The high-end Smart-phone looks more elegant with rounded corners than the first generation handset. For those who think bigger is better, the iphone 3G is bigger but retains the slim look of the first generation model.

It is being released in two color variations of black and white, so you can take your pick. Apple’s iphone 3G is slated for release in 23 countries world-wide on July 11th, and 50 other countries would be added to the list by the year-end. So no matter where you are, you can’t be too far from the Apple iphone 3G.

The iphone 3G comes with a tri-band HSDPA connectivity, in-built GPS, has access to AppStore and Microsoft Exchange Mail among its many features.

The iphone 3G measures 115.5×62.1×12.3 mm and weighs 133 gms.

However, the iphone 3G’s pricing by its different carriers O2, AT&T and Vodafone , is getting mixed responses.

Samsung SCH W510: Eco-friendly Corn Phone

Samsung SCH W510, the Eco-friendly Corn Phone is the first Korean handset to receive the “green label” from Korea Eco-Products Institute. It is one of the two Eco-friendly models released by Samsung in Korea, the other being F268.

If you are one of those who wants to do their bit for the environment then here is a chance. The USP of Samsung SCH W510 is that it has none of the hazardous metals like Lead, Cadmium, or Mercury. The SCH W510 is made up of plastic got from the Corn, hence the name.

The Samsung SCH W510 is a slider phone and can compete with any of the non-Eco friendly models of the mid-end range.

The SCH W510 has a QGVA display with 240×320 pixel resolution. It has a 3Mega pixel camera with flash and video recording and mobile TV capabilities. It comes in the expected all-green colour and also black.

Though Samsung has not yet revealed any release dates in other countries, the SCH W510 is surely one model to look out for.

Samsung’s touchscreen mobile: Instinct SPH-M800

Samsung’s touchscreen mobile Instinct, Model SPH-M800 is now being released in Canada. It will be released by the two major CDMA carriers-Telus and Bell this Summer.

The Instinct was released by Sprint in the US markets last month and has received several awards there. It is being projected by Sprint in the US as its best-selling EV-Do device till date. With all the hype it gathered in the US, thanks to the Sprint advertisement campaign, the Canadian buyers would be eagerly looking forward to the Mobile’s release in their own markets this Summer. Sharp launches 5.2M camera phone 923SH in Japan

Sharp launches its 5.2M camera phone with a swivelling AQUOS LCD display in Japan through Softbank. The model will be available in the Japanese markets from July 5th as Softbank 923SH.

The new 923SH is being promoted as one of the best mobile TV phones in the market. It has the same AQUOS LCD display that is the cornerstone of Sharp TVs. The 3.3 inch swivelling AQUOS LCD display comes with a 480×845 pixel resolution and boasts of supporting upto 16.7 million colors.

The 5.2M camera comes with an auto focus, face detection, flash, wide-angle capabilities, video recording and also stabilizes hand-shake blurring. Most of the needs of the mobile phone photographer are well taken care of.

LG launches its full touchscreen handset ‘Dare’ in the US

LG launches its full touchscreen handset ‘Dare’ model LG-VX 9700 through Verizon Wireless Communications in the US. Dare is being positioned in the US markets to compete head-on with Apple’s new iphone 3G and Samsung’s Instinct.

The best feature of the Dare is its 3.2M photo camera with auto focus, face detection, manual ISO adjustment, flash, panorama shots and video recording in VGA mode. It also comes with SmartPic technology which makes editing easier. The Dare’s camera appears to have better features than that of both the i-phone and Instinct.

Dare comes with a 3 inch TFT touchscreen display with 260k colors and 240/400 pixel resolution. The other features of the Dare include a tactile feedback while typing, handwriting recognition, a dual-band CDMA connectivity with EV-DO for high-speed data transfer and VZ Navigator.

The usual features like GPS, Blue tooth 2.1 with EDR, e-mail, Instant Messaging, Music and Video players and Image Editor are also present.

Dare also comes with a full HTML browser with touch navigation and favorites but an apparent disadvantage is that it is able to display only specially formatted websites.

Dare measures 4.1×2.2×0.5 inches (104×56x12.7 millimeters) and weighs 3.76 ounces (107 gms).

The 1,100 mAh battery can give 4280 minutes of talk-time and 360 hours in stand-by mode.

Dare handsets are now available in Verizon’s Wireless Communication Stores across the US.

Motorola Releases MotoZine ZN5 in China

Motorola Motorola released its latest 5M camera phone MotoZine ZN5 in China. The phone would be available from July onwards in the Chinese markets. It would be eventually launched in other countries around the world, but at a later date.

MotoZine ZN5 is the first mobile phone to combine the technologies of both Kodak and Motorola. ZN5 combines the Kodak Imaging Technology, Kodak Perfect Touch and Motorola’s ModeShift Technology to give the “ultimate mobile imaging experience”.

MotoZine ZN5 comes with a 5 mega pixel camera with auto-focus, Xenon flash, low-light optimization, video recording and a lens cover. A pre-installed Kodak EasyShare Software will let you easily edit and share photos.

LG launches its flagship handset Secret’s LG-SU600/KU 6000/LU 6000 models in its home country South Korea. A high-end touchscreen handset, it was earlier released in Europe as LGKF 750 and in South America as LGKF 755.

LG’s Secret is made of materials generally not used in making mobile phones-tempered glass and carbon filter.

It comes with a 5 Mega-pixel camera with auto focus, face detection, flash and video recording and can take pictures of upto a maximum resolution of 2592×1944 pixels.

Some of the high-end features of the Secret include a 2.4 inch TFT touchscreen display with 262K colours, a QVGA resolution, a 3G Connectivity for data transfer, a “Touch Media” user interface, pre-installed Google application, e-mail, full HTML browser, Bluetooth 2.0, a 100MB of internal memory and a micro SD card support for upto 4 GB.

The LG Secret is a sleek looking mobile of 102.8×50.8×11.8 millimetres and weighs 116 gms.

The battery packed in Secret is 800mAh which can give upto 4hours of talk-time and 260 hours on stand-by mode.

The pricing of the LG Secret in Korean markets is not yet known.

Panasonic releases Tropical 823P- a 3G Waterproof Handset

Panasonic has released the 3G Tropical 823P a waterproof handset in the Japanese markets on 28th June. The Tropical 823P was made available through Japan’s third largest mobile carriers, Softbank. The phone is being presented as the handset that can be carried into “the bathroom and the kitchen”. It is being promoted as a complete waterproof mobile handset.

The Tropical 823P is a clamshell design which measures 50×108x17.6mm and weighs 132 gms. It is available in pure white, lime green, cherry pink, marine blue and black.

The Tropical 823P has a 3 inch QVGA display with a 240×320 pixel resolution. It has a 2Mega-pixel camera with auto focus and video recording. Among other features, it also has HSDPA support, 1-Seg for viewing TV programmes, Blue-tooth and GPS functions.

The battery of Tropical 823P is capable of giving up to 220 minutes of talk time and 600 hours of stand-by time. It can also give upto 5.3 hours in TV viewing mode.

Blackberry Bold to be released in Canada

Blackberry Bold 9000 will be released in Canada in July, atleast a month before it enters the US markets. Slated as one of the best smart-phones from RIM stables it is all set to take on Apple’s i-phone in the high-end mobile segment. Bold will be made available through Canada’s largest mobile operators, Rogers Wireless.

Blackberry Bold comes in a well designed case and measures 114×66x14 millimetres. It weighs 133 gms. It has a wide TFT display with a 480×320 pixel resolution and comes with an expandable memory of 1 GB.

Bold comes with the RIM’s trackball navigator, a quad-band GSM plus tri-band HSDPA connectivity and a full QWERTY keypad. Among other features the phone will also have a built-in GPS, WI-FI, Blackberry maps, advanced e-mail capabilities, a full HTML browser and Music and video players.

The 624MH3 processor and the powerful 1500 mAh battery will provide a talk time of upto 5 hours and a stand by time of upto 310 hours.

A clam-shell variety phone, especially designed to target the female market, it would be available in three basic colors of golden pink, black and white. It would also be made available in other attractive color versions. To make it more attractive to the female users the S0760i has a number of wall papers with floral motifs and a number of pre-installed games.

The model is coming up into the Japanese markets for 40,000 Japanese yen an equivalent of $380.

Mobile phones and kids safety: must for parents

A third of the 20 million American preteen children between the ages of 8-12 already have a cell phone and that level will jump to nearly half by 2010, according to industry experts.

With so many parents using pre-paid and other affordable options to arm their children with cell phones, experts are emphasizing that it’s important to make sure that children know how to use those cell phones to be safer this summer.
Nicholas P. Sullivan, author of a March 2008 study based on more than 110,000 interviews with prepaid and other cell phone users (who were asked about emergency/safety use of wireless phones) and the 2007 book “You Can Hear Me Now: How Microloans and Cell Phones Are Connecting the World’s Poor to the Global Economy,” said:

“In a world of split custody arrangements, households in which both parents work, and other factors, the low-cost prepaid phone has made it possible for parents to extend to their children the same kind of ’safety blanket’ that they rely on in emergency situations. We know from research that more and more adults are placing emergency calls from cell phones. Given that younger, tech-savvy Americans are even more inclined to rely on wireless phones, it is imperative that parents take the time to make sure children understand how to use the phone to be safe.”
“Every day, nearly a quarter of a million emergency calls are placed to 9-1-1 from cell phones and we expect to see children making a bigger share of those calls as cell phone use among youths becomes even more prevalent” said David Aylward, director and founder, COMCARE Emergency Response Alliance — a nonprofit educational and advocacy group of more than 100 organizations representing emergency responders nationwide.

“Children need to be taught that the cell phone is a tool, not a toy. It can play an important role in emergency situations involving children, but only if their parents have taken the time to teach kids what they need to know.”
Sullivan and Aylward outlined the following three recommendations for enhanced summer safety for children with cell phones:
1. Teach your child to push “9-1-1″ and then the cell phone’s “call” or “send” button — in an emergency. Explain that this is a very serious thing and that placing the call will bring a police officer, firefighter or EMT to the scene. Explain that “emergency” for 9-1-1 means threat to body or life — “afraid you will be hurt.

” Don’t assume that because you know how 9-1-1 works that your child also understands. It’s also a mistake to assume that a child who knows how to dial 9-1-1 on a landline will know how to do the same thing on a cell phone, which requires the extra “call” or “send” button stage. Have your child practice this on a cell phone that is turned off.
2. Pre-program your child’s cell phone with all important phone numbers — including your home, your office and related cell phone numbers. Make sure that your child knows how to find these pre-programmed numbers in his or her phone and then how to place a call using a pre-programmed number. Add “ICE” (in case of emergency) to the key numbers you want responders or others to call if your child is in trouble, e.g. ICE Daddy Cell; ICE Home.
3. Tell children to remain on the line after calling 9-1-1, and to be prepared to describe their location as well as they can. While “enhanced 9-1-1″ technologies are supposed to locate wireless 9-1-1 callers automatically, sometimes they don’t work or may be off by several hundred feet.
Aylward and Sullivan also noted that the cell phone being turned on should be part of what is required when a child is away from your home. Test this from time to time. Do not accept the excuse from your child that a cell phone was turned off when you tried to reach him or her. Buy a spare charger for your child’s phone and put the charger in his or her backpack. Make sure that your child understands the need to keep the cell phone charged and turned on when he or she is away from the house.
Aylward and Sullivan said that parents who teach their children how to use cell phones responsibly in emergency situations may be able to avoid the public humiliation and even prosecution that can result from “prank” 9-1-1 calls placed on cell phones by youths. In one case currently under investigation in Salt Lake City, a 14-year-old was arrested after placing more than 1,500 bogus wireless 9-1-1 calls from cell phones.

Similar incidents involving preteens and teens abusing wireless phones have been reported in the last 18 months in Tennessee, Illinois, Arkansas, Idaho and Wisconsin. Children should understand that prank 9-1-1 calls tie up crucial police, fire and EMT resources and, therefore, are anything but “harmless.”
Though research would need to be done to reach firm conclusions, it also is possible that teaching preteens responsible cell phone use in emergency situations will make them less likely to engage in irresponsible phone use at a later age resulting in high bills for texting, excessive minutes use and other practices.
Even though children may primarily be interested in cell phones as a way to text, download music and play games, the use of an inexpensive prepaid phone can teach them to budget their available minutes - or face running out of access to phone time.

Many parents are opting to use low-cost pre-paid phones that allow them to buy their child a cell phone for as little as $15 and then use pre-purchased minutes for $20 or less for three months, versus a wireless contract plan that can cost $30-$40 a month per phone or even more.

Apple Bring iPhone 3G to Philippines through Globe Telecom

Globe Telecom and Apple(R) today announced that they will be bringing the highly anticipated iPhone(TM) 3G to the Philippines later this year. iPhone 3G combines all the revolutionary features of iPhone with 3G networking that is twice as fast* as the first generation iPhone, built-in GPS for expanded location based mobile services, and iPhone 2.0 software which includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and runs the hundreds of third party applications already built with the recently released iPhone SDK.
