Weighing at about 145g, the Xperia is quite heavy and you can ‘feel’ the weight as you handle it. The crisp display of 3 inches sports a resolution of 800 x 480, which is very good for a phone of this size. It has an optical sensor which allows for a quicker selection of menus. If it gets too sensitive to use, you can always opt for the 4-way navigational keys.

It has a standard 3.5 mm earphone socket, microSD card and a mini-USB port, covering all the external connectivity requirements. The QWERTY keyboard can be slid out and the movement is ultra-smooth. The curvy bottom-half of this keypad makes it very easy to hold and operate. The keypad itself is quick to get used to and you can even use two-hands like in conventional typing.

The new ‘panels’ technology which is unique to Xperia is not just for the show. Navigating relevant applications, functions and features is quite a breeze. Such kind of Active Desktop feel is definitely the selling feature of Xperia and since one can easily customize it, it makes it even more appealing.

Operating on Windows Mobile OS v6.1, the navigation is as user-friendly as possible. 400 MB of internal user memory can easily be extended with the use of microSD cards. 3G is natively supported. A-GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi as well as Google Maps come pre-loaded. The 3.5Mp camera is more than adequate for any shutterbugs.
